About

Many years ago, many more than I care to remember, I was born on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire an area known as the Waterside. Since then, I have wandered around the country before finally settling here on the coast at a little fishing village Whitehills, near Banff, Aberdeenshire.

Living in the Northeast of Scotland has been a dream for me as a wildlife enthusiast. Before settling in Whitehills, my wife and I spent nine years on the Isle of Skye, immersing ourselves in the natural beauty and unique wildlife of the Scottish islands. Among all the places we have visited, the Island of Mull stands out as a particular favourite, offering unforgettable encounters and stunning landscapes.

A Passion for Cetaceans and Birds

My fascination with wildlife centres around cetaceans and birds. The thrill of spotting dolphins, whales, or rare bird species never gets old. Of course, my love for wildlife extends beyond these favourites — who can resist the charm of an otter or the elusive pine marten? Every creature has its own appeal, and I find joy in observing them all.

Life Beyond Wildlife Watching

When I am not out exploring nature, I spend my spare time as a dog walker, I enjoy photography, and I am a bit of a geek when it comes to new devices and technology. Sports and music are also important parts of my life, providing balance and inspiration. After a few years away from macro photography, I am excited to dive back in and explore the intricate details of the micro world once again.

Embracing the Wild

Whether it is walking along the coast, photographing wildlife, or simply enjoying the outdoors, living in Northeast Scotland offers endless opportunities for adventure and discovery. The rich diversity of animals and landscapes continues to fuel my enthusiasm, and I look forward to sharing some experiences from this beautiful region.

I created this blog to pass the time on wet, miserable days and to share some of our adventures in the north of Scotland.
