Just outside Turriff in Aberdeenshire is the village of Fyvie where you will find Castle Fyvie.  It is a National Trust of Scotland visitor site and is well worth a visit.  The castle has an impressive walled garden, woodland walk and a lake.  Some parts of the Castle date back to the 13th century.  Several of the owners modified the castle during their stay.

The interior as you would expect, is very baronial, full of suits of armour, swords and other arms, it also hosts some very impressive oil paintings.  Inside there are 13 Henry Raeburn portraits, along with other paintings by artists such as Gainsborough, Romney, Lawrence, Greuze, Vigée Le Brun, Millais, Batoni.

Like most castles in Scotland it has a Ghost!  The husband of Lilias Drummond, the Green Lady, starved her to death in one of the rooms.   Shortly after her death he re-married leaving her a very unhappy ghost indeed.

The restored 18th century walled garden is impressive, with a wealth of different fruits and vegetables growing there in Spring and Summer

There is a lovely woodland walk in the grounds, around a large lake.  The lake hosts many different species of birds  During one of our visits we were lucky to see a beautiful pair of Mandarin Ducks.
